A bio is a few lines that have to do several jobs at once, which is why people reach for styling to make one line stand out.
The mistake is styling all of it, because then nothing stands out and the whole thing is harder to read.
How much space do you actually have?
Instagram gives you 150 characters, X gives 160, TikTok gives 80, and Discord gives a short About Me. None of those is generous.
Styled characters do not always count as one each. Combining styles like strikethrough add a hidden mark per letter, and a heavy frame can take six characters on its own.
That is why the safest approach is to write the bio plain, count it, and then style a single line within the space you have.
A structure that works
- Line one styled: your name, your role, or the one phrase you want remembered.
- Line two plain: what you actually do, written in words people would search for.
- Line three plain: the link or the call to action, which must stay typeable.
- Keep any location or niche keyword in ordinary characters, since that is what platform search matches.
Tip: I wrote a bio where every line was styled differently and it read like a ransom note. One styled line at the top and plain text underneath looked far more deliberate, and the profile started converting better almost immediately.

This page styles text you already have. If you are still working out the name itself, a nickname generator covers that side, and it is easier to pick the words first and style them once at the end.
