Write the exact final string somewhere first, symbols included, and count it before you open the inventory.
A squad prefix takes three or four of the fourteen, so a decorated name and a squad tag rarely fit together.
Names have to be unique as well, which is the usual reason a plain short name is refused.
What to prioritise
- Frames over converted letters, since frames are accepted more often and stay readable in the death screen.
- Short bases, because eight letters plus a light frame reads better than fourteen letters cut off.
- One format across the squad if you play together, agreed before anyone spends a card.
- Check the string at feed size, where names are shown small and briefly.
Tip: Our squad picked matching decorated names in a hurry and two of us used a different bracket, so an organiser listed us as two teams in a scrim bracket. Twenty minutes of the event went on sorting that out instead of warming up.
