That makes it a frames-only situation in practice, since a converted alphabet plus a wrapper has no chance of fitting.

Two or three letters with a light frame is realistically the whole budget. Ornate wrappers are out.
Names are shown above a small character sprite during a round, so anything detailed disappears at that size.
The blank name trick people remember from the early days relied on a special space character, and it has been patched in the official servers.
Keeping it playable
- Discussion is the entire game, and a name nobody can type is a name nobody can accuse or defend.
- Small caps stays readable at sprite size and costs no extra characters.
- Simple brackets read better than decorative wrappers at that scale.
- Public lobbies often have moderation on names, so keep it clean as well as short.
Tip: I played a few rounds with a heavily decorated name and people referred to me as the symbol guy because they could not type it in chat. In a game where the entire mechanic is naming people, that is a real disadvantage.
